That Thing You Do! (7.7/10)
This is a 1996 drama/musical that I really enjoyed, even if it didn't quite feel like a movie worth going higher than an 8.0 for me. It's a short runtime, but it doesn't feel like it — there's enough packed in that it plays like a normal-length film without ever dragging. The acting is great across the board, it's got that classic 90s charm to it, and the ending is obvious from a mile away but still lands in a satisfying way. My one gripe: if I have to hear that title song one more time, I might have docked it a couple more points, they sing it so many times over the runtime that it starts to wear thin. Still, a solid, feel-good watch overall. "I have a hard time sometimes separating a well-acted, well-made film from a film I actually enjoyed watching, and Trainspotting is a perfect example of that gap. "Wily band manager Mr White helps a small town band achieve big time success when they release a Beatles-style pop song in 1964. Pennsylvania band the `Oneders' become a sensation after their drummer breaks his arm, and is replaced by jazz enthusiast, Guy Patterson, who injects something a bit different into their music."
