Super Mario Galaxy Movie (5.5/10)

I wasn’t impressed by this sequel. The overall plot is exactly what you’d expect, but the execution feels lackluster and never reaches its full potential. Instead of growing with the audience that made the original such a success, the film leans heavily into being a kids’ movie rather than embracing the more mature, nostalgia-driven approach many longtime fans were hoping for. That choice may divide viewers, especially those who grew up with the franchise and wanted something that balanced family-friendly fun with callbacks for older audiences. It’s still entertaining enough for younger viewers, but it lacks the charm and excitement needed to stand out. If this is the start of a larger series, its future will depend on the direction it takes. Committing to either nostalgia-focused storytelling or a younger audience could help establish a clearer identity, but trying to satisfy both may leave the franchise feeling unfocused.
