Rocky IV (5.5/10)

Yikes! This installment takes a dramatic turn from the rest of the series, and not always for the better. It leans heavily into politics, over-the-top patriotism, and '80s cheese, making the story feel far more exaggerated than its predecessors. The plot is difficult to take seriously, and the revenge-driven narrative never fully landed for me. While there are still entertaining moments and the franchise's signature training and boxing sequences deliver plenty of energy, the overall direction feels more like a spectacle than the grounded underdog story that made the original so memorable. It’s possible this film resonated much more with audiences during the era in which it was released, but viewed through a modern lens, many of its themes and storytelling choices don’t hold up as well. For me, this is one of the weaker entries in the series."After reclaiming the boxing championship title, Rocky Balboa plans to retire and live with his wife, Adrian. However, during an exhibition match, Rocky's friend Apollo Creed is mercilessly beaten to death by hulking Russian newcomer Ivan Drago. Rocky vows payback against Drago and flies to Russia to train for a Christmas Day fight. Despite their different training methods, Rocky and Drago both wage a long and intense match."
