A true classic that completely lived up to the years I spent keeping it on my watchlist. While the fight choreography is undeniably a product of its time, it’s easy to look past because the heart of the story remains just as powerful today. As one of the original underdog sports films, it established a formula that countless movies have followed, yet it still feels authentic and inspiring. Sylvester Stallone delivers a raw, genuine performance that perfectly captures the spirit of Rocky Balboa. There’s an honesty and vulnerability to his portrayal that makes the character feel real, and it’s easy to see why the role became so iconic. Watching the franchise evolve only highlights how much Stallone grew as an actor, but there’s something special about the unpolished energy he brings to this first film.
