K-Pops (6.6/10)

This is a 2024 Comedy/Drama starring Anderson Paak and his son. This one clearly worked for a lot of people, but it just didn’t land for me. The concept is strong, and there’s enough energy in the performances to keep it watchable, but the movie leans too heavily into cheesy moments that never really connect. The acting, in particular, is rough in places and makes it harder to buy into the emotional beats. Still, it wasn’t a total waste of time. There’s a decent idea at the center of it, and that kept me engaged even when the execution fell short."Washed-up musician BJ attempts to revive his career by joining a K-pop competition house band in Seoul. He discovers a contestant is his long-lost son and tries to capitalize on the boy's fame."
