Fast Times At Ridgemont High (8.1/10)

A classic 1982 romantic comedy that still holds up as an easy, entertaining watch. It is especially surprising to see Sean Penn in a role like this, but he completely commits to it and helps make the film so memorable. The cast delivers strong performances across the board, with a believable high school energy that gives the movie its charm. Even when it leans into its broad comedy, there is enough personality in the performances to keep everything grounded. At just a quick runtime, it is the kind of movie that is easy to throw on and enjoy without asking too much from the audience. "Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is a pretty, but inexperienced, teen interested in dating. Given advice by her uninhibited friend, Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates), Stacy gets trapped in a love triangle with nice guy Mark Ratner (Brian Backer) and his more assured buddy Mike Damone (Robert Romanus). Meanwhile, Stacy's classmate Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), who lives for surfing and being stoned, faces off against Mr. Hand (Ray Walston), a strict teacher who has no time for the slacker's antics."
