- Time to Hunt (7.1/10)
This movie was solid. A Korean film with subtitles. The film is about a group of young teens planning a heist to escape a dystopian world who attract the attention of a vicious killer.
- An American Pickle (7.6/10)
I thought this was a solid film. Being a huge Seth Rogan fan, I thought this movie could have been more of a comedy. Some of the comedy scenes were flops. The storyline, however, was unique and a different take, which I enjoyed.
- Driveways (7.1/10)
Heartfelt story. It is about a boy who moves to a different town to help clean his dead aunt's house with his single mother. He is able to form a friendship with his neighbor who is a war veteran.
- Motherless Brooklyn (6.7/10)
While this movie had a stellar cast, it was slow and boring. The plot was interesting but the execution was poor. It is about a lonely private detective who doesn't let his Tourette's syndrome stand in the way of his job. His mentor and best friend gets murdered and he tries to solve the mystery.
- Project Power (7.4/10)
This film is about a former soldier that teams up with a cop to find the source of a dangerous pill that provides temporary superpowers. It stars Jaime Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. While it wasn't the greatest movie if offered action and was entertaining.
- The Vast of Night (6.5/10)
This movie was confusing at times but I thought the story was good. It is a Sci-fi/Mystery that takes place in the 1950s, where two children search for the source of a mysterious radio frequency that has descended on their town.
- Da 5 Bloods (7.1/10)
I thought this film was solid overall. A little long for a part action movie. The film is about a group of Vietnam vets that go back to their former battle grounds looking for the gold fortune their fallen squad left behind. I liked it, but I agree with the rotten tomatoes audience (54%) more than the critics (92%) on this one.
- Leave No Trace (6.7/10)
This film received insanely high reviews. While I understand the dramatic aspect of the story, it got boring at times and did not provide enough entertainment to keep me focused. It is about a father and daughter who live in the forests, who are pursued by the authorities when living in the woods.
- The Hate U Give (8.4/10)
The Hate U Give is relevant to what is happening in the world today. It is about a girl who is balancing two different lifestyles in the areas where she lives and where she goes to school. She witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer. Facing pressure from all sides of the community, she must find her voice and decide to stand up for what's right. I suggest everyone take the opportunity to watch this movie.
- Everybody Knows (7.8/10)
This is a Spanish thriller/mystery starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. The film is subtitled and is about a kidnapping and the mystery behind it. It was thrilling to watch and the mystery aspect was interesting to see it pan out.
- Don't Let Go (6.8/10)
This was a tough movie to rate. A thriller mixed with supernatural-horror was something new to me. The film was a bit confusing in the beginning and did not pick up until the second half. I would rate the second half of the movie around 7.5 but the beginning was not really worth the build up. It is about a detective getting a phone call from his recently murdered niece and, working together across time, they race to solve the crime before it happens.
- I'm Thinking of Ending Things (4.2/10)
Boring and confusing all around. Took me 30 minutes of research after the film to even figure out what happened. Not a fan.
