- Dangerous Animals (4.6/10)
A unique concept but plot holes, terrible acting, and bad CGI. Critics gave this a 86% on rotten tomatoes and they have to be out of their minds. " A shark-obsessed serial killer holds Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, captive on his boat. Racing against time, she must figure out a way to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below."
- A Prophet (9.1/10)
This is a 2 hour and half hour, 2009, Crime/Drama that has many different languages like Arabic, French, English, and Portuguese. The beginning is a little slow but the build up and character development was crazy to watch. If you like mob movies and can read subtitles for a long movie, give this a crack. " This acclaimed crime drama follows Malik El Djebena (Tahar Rahim), a delinquent young Muslim man, who is struggling to get by in a French prison. When he is taken under the wing of powerful Corsican mob boss Cesar Luciani (Niels Arestrup), he begins performing regular assignments for him, proving himself invaluable to the imposing criminal. As Malik rises in the mob ranks, he gains more power, but also more enemies, a situation that eventually brings conflict with his mentor."
- Volver (8.3/10)
A 2006 Spanish speaking film starring Penelope Cruz. It is a mix of humor, heartbreak, and crime set in a small village in Madrid. The acting was great. I think it might be outdated in a couple years. " Raimunda (Penélope Cruz) works and lives Madrid with her husband Paco and daughter Paula. Her sister Sole (Lola Dueñas) lives nearby and they both miss their mother Irene (Carmen Maura), who died several years ago in a house fire along with their father. A former neighbor from their hometown reports that she has seen the ghost of Irene and both daughters do not believe her. After a murder and a family tragedy, Irene's spirit materializes around her daughters to help comfort them."
- Happy Gilmore 2 (5.5/10)
Clearly a nostalgic cash grab for the Happy Gilmore crew. While it wasn’t a good movie by any critical standard, it did deliver a few laughs and was packed with familiar cameos. The plot was weak and below average but it kept your attention for 2 hours. " Gilmore returns to the sport of golf since his retirement after winning his first Tour Championship, to finance his daughter's ballet classes."
- The Woman In The Yard (4.6/10)
Nothing special with this new horror film. It was a combination of a short film while also being slow-moving/boring which is not ideal. You can skip this. " Ramona becomes crippled by grief after her husband dies in a car accident, leaving her to care for her two children alone in her rural farmhouse. Her sadness soon turns to fear when a spectral woman in black appears on her front lawn, warning her "today's the day." As the mysterious figure creeps closer and closer to the house, Ramona realizes she must protect her children from the evil woman who simply won't leave them alone."
- A River Runs Through It (8.0/10)
A 1992 Brad Pitt film that seemed a bit outdated but the themes and progression of character development worked in well. It is a solid watch but nothing to add to the top of your list. " The Maclean brothers, Paul (Brad Pitt) and Norman (Craig Sheffer), live a relatively idyllic life in rural Montana, spending much of their time fly fishing. The sons of a minister (Tom Skerritt), the boys eventually part company when Norman moves east to attend college, leaving his rebellious brother to find trouble back home. When Norman finally returns, the siblings resume their fishing outings, and assess both where they've been and where they're going."
- The Penguin Lessons (8.1/10)
Not what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed this true story. The blend of comedy, drama, and historical context worked surprisingly well. The acting and cinematography were both solid, helping bring the story to life. Overall, it’s a feel-good film with heart. " During the 1976 coup in Argentina, an English teacher rescues a penguin and brings it to his school. His life begins to change when the bird's presence starts to have a positive effect on the school."
- Barron's Cove (7.2/10)
A 2024 thriller with sub par acting, a decent plot, and solid ending. It had good elements but I think this could have been a lot better. They had the ingredients, just couldn't get them to mix together. " A man with a violent past kidnaps the boy he holds responsible for his son's death. As he grows closer to uncovering the truth, he's left to wonder whether his pursuers are really seeking to protect the boy, or merely the secrets he keeps."
- Eyes Wide Shut (7.7/10)
This was an intriguing 1999 thriller/mystery starring Tom Hanks and Nicole Kidman. I still don't totally know what happened in this film so I have to read about it. The ending made a bit more sense but you were lost for most of the film. " After Dr. Bill Hartford's (Tom Cruise) wife, Alice (Nicole Kidman), admits to having sexual fantasies about a man she met, Bill becomes obsessed with having a sexual encounter. He discovers an underground sexual group and attends one of their meetings -- and quickly discovers that he is in over his head."
- Sovereign (7.4/10)
This new 2025 film was hard for me to rate. I liked the acting and dialogue but I just felt the film was missing an extra piece and you felt unsatisfied in the end. I wouldn't recommend this even though it high scores. " A father and son, part of an anti-government group, engage in a standoff with a police chief. This confrontation leads to a manhunt for the pair."
- Echo Valley (7.5/10)
Great acting between Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore. I thought the film is better than its ratings. The ending wasn't the best and left you wanting more which brought the rating down a bunnch. Not the worst watch, I think some out there would like this more than I did. " Kate's secluded life is interrupted by her troubled daughter when she shows up frightened and covered in someone's blood. As Kate unravels the truth, she learns how far she'll go for her child."
- Sunshine (7.5/10)
If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on a 2007 wave lately — and this makes three in a row. Unfortunately, Sunshine doesn’t pass the outdated check. Visually and stylistically, parts of it haven’t aged well. That said, the concept is genuinely great: in a dying future where Earth’s sun is fading, a crew of eight astronauts sets off on a desperate mission to reignite it. Things take a turn after an accident, a critical mistake, and the discovery of a distress signal from a long-lost mission. Some pieces were a bit confusing but another 2007 piece to keep off your radar.
